The inflammatory phase (1)
Inflammation begins minutes after injury. The coagulation cascade is activated to stop bleeding. When the clot is formed small protein fragments are produced which attract inflammatory cells.
Platelets are trapped in the clot and release growth factors at the site of injury.

So, within minutes the basis for subsequent inflammatory changes is laid and activation of the dormant cells at the wound edges can occur.
